El Paso also called "The Sun City" is an exciting place which offers plenty to see and do. The city located on the Rio Grande on the Mexican border is greatly influenced by its geographical location, in first place the Franklin Mountains and the military complex Fort Bliss that divide the city into several distinct areas each of which has an unique style and character. El Paso will delight visitors interested in history as well as those who prefer natural wonders though The Sun City is a very interesting place itself.

El Paso is best known for its rich cultural and historical heritage which can be noticed on virtually every step. However, the city is also home to numerous historical buildings and places which are a must-see, especially if being interested in history. Within the city, you can find many prominent historic buildings such as the Magoffin Home State Historic Site (a former home of the pioneer Joseph Magoffin), the Plaza Hotel, the Plaza Theatre, the Ysleta Mission, the El Paso Union Depot and many others which have been listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Another must-see is the Chamizal National Memorial along the US-Mexican border which is one of the top El Paso's attractions. The Park which commemorates the resolution of over one century long border dispute between the United States and Mexico features a museum where you can learn more about the history of the US-Mexico border, galleries with interesting exhibits, a theater and an amphitheater. Worth visiting is also the National Border Patrol Museum, the only museum of its kind in the United States presenting its past and current operations.

History buffs should take time to visit the Hueco Tank State Park and Historic Site about 32 miles northeast of El Paso. The Park that was listed on the National Register of Historic Places is best known for the huecos, natural rock tanks and numerous rock paintings and pictographs created by the American Indians. In addition to exploring ancient rock paintings, the beautiful 860.3 acre park also offers a large number of outdoor activities and recreation opportunities including rock climbing and birding. You are highly recommended to make a reservation if planning to visit the Hueco tanks.

Visitors interested in natural beauty and exiting outdoor activities should definitely visit the Franklin Mountains State Park which lies completely within the city of El Paso and is the nation's largest urban park. There you can also find the Wyler Aeril Tramway which will take you to the Ranger Peak 5,632 feet above sea level offering spectacular view of El Paso and the beautiful landscape surrounding the city.
